Salt Lake City w/ the Tea Party & Rocky Anderson
Finding common ground between conservatives and progressives? It's civil liberty. Over the July 4th weekend, I traveled to Salt Lake City to party with the Mormons. I attended FreedomWorks' 'Free the People' event to talk to Tea Party legislators Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ 6) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), and while I got the usual dose of crazy, I also found some common ground. Schweikert essentially called Sen. John McCain a warmonger... A conservative for peace? Lee disliked President Obama unilaterally postponing the employer mandate in healthcare legislation passed by Congress... Executive overreach? Later, I visited the home of a former mayor of Salt Lake City and the founder of the Justice Party, Rocky Anderson, who detailed the litany of civil liberties abuses of the Obama administration in the name of national security.
